Mapping CAPVA support in Merseyside

Merseyside Violence Reduction Partnership – Child/Adolescent to Parent Violence and Abuse (CAPVA) Research

Researchers at Liverpool John Moores University are currently conducting a study on Child and Adolescent to Parent Violence and Abuse, with the aim of mapping provision across Merseyside to gain a better understanding of support availability and effectiveness, as well as how services could be improved.

In 2022 the Merseyside Violence Reduction Partnership (MVRP) implemented a multi-agency stakeholder event on CAPVA. The event aimed to explore how partners across Merseyside can effectively prevent and respond to CAPVA, and support those affected by CAPVA. Critically the event highlighted the importance of developing understanding of the nature, extent and impact of CAPVA across Merseyside, current service provision and interventions, and areas for transformation across the whole system. With your help we aim to complete interviews and surveys with service users and practitioners to understand the nature, extent and impact of CAPVA across Merseyside, current service provision and interventions, and areas for transformation across the whole system. We would also like to map out current service provision, policies/strategies and data collection in relation to CAPVA. These findings will be used by the Merseyside Violence Reduction Partnership to advocate for and support the development of prevention activities, and the support offered to those who have experienced CAPVA.

They are seeking to recruit participants from both practitioner groups and families, including children aged between 14 and 25. There are opportunities to engage both in surveys and interviews to inform this important work.

If you have experience of child/adolescent to parent/caregiver violence or abuse (CAPVA), or if you are working with families who have experienced child/adolescent to parent/caregiver violence or abuse (CAPVA), AND ARE BASED IN MERSEYSIDE, and would like to know more about this research / how you can take part, please contact the research team at Liverpool John Moores University.

The deadline for surveys is June 21st.
