Fact one: The phenomenon was first formally described as “Battered Parent Syndrome” by Harbin and Madden in 1979, decades before terms such as CPV, CPA, APVA, CAPVA or CPVA became common, but well after psychiatric researchers were talking about relevant family referrals into their clinics. “Battered Parent Syndrome” is still referenced in much contemporary research.
