I am very excited to bring to your attention the landmark CAPVA (child and adolescent to parent violence and abuse) survey being launched by Respect! Despite increasing attention to this issue – and media coverage – it seems that awareness of prevalence and the impact on families by people in the wider community in the UK remains poor. Hopefully this survey will give a clearer picture of what is known and experienced, and how responses can be made more effective.
The survey is open until August 29th, but don’t leave it till the last minute!
Respect launches landmark CAPVA survey

Domestic abuse charity Respect has launched a survey, aiming to create a national picture of the public’s understanding and experiences of child/ adolescent to parent violence and abuse, known as CAPVA.
Funded by the Noel Buxton Trust, and in partnership with Talk Listen Change and their young service users, the survey will explore adults’ and young people’s understanding of CAPVA, and – where they have needed support related to the issue – the survey will ask for detail on
- whether they sought support
- if they didn’t seek support, what the reasons were
- if they did access support, how they would rate the effectiveness of that support
- how their experiences or identity impacted their help seeking
- whether they have any suggestions to improve things for people in their position
Whether you have experienced CAPVA or not, please take 5 minutes to complete this survey to help Respect understand people’s knowledge and experiences. It’s open to anyone aged 13+, living in the UK, and closes at 5pm on 29 August.
You can find more information about the survey, and a link to complete it on the Respect Website here.
